Shantel G. Buggs

Biography

Shantel Gabrieal Buggs, Ph.D., earned her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017. Dr. Buggs is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Florida State University. Her research interests center on racism, digital life and culture, and intersectional assessments of institutional and intimate/romantic relationships. Her exploration of how race, gender, and technology shape romantic and sexual relationships has appeared in journals such as Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Sociological Inquiry, and the Journal of Marriage and Family. She is co-editor of Unsafe Words: Queering Consent in the #MeToo Era (Rutgers University Press, 2023). You can read more about Dr. Buggs’ work at her website.
