Who is my advisor?
All advising for majors, graduation, and progress checks for COSSPP students is through Academic Advising in the Office of Academic Affairs.
While you may consult other faculty and staff for information about your major, do not rely solely on sources outside our office (including FSU faculty and staff, family, or friends) to confirm any remaining degree requirements and graduation timeline.
Students on the FSU Panama City or Republic of Panama campuses should refer to advising offices in those locations.
Drop/Add Dates and Deadlines
Spring 2025 Drop/Add opened at 12:01 am EST on Sunday, January 5 and will close at 11:59 pm EST on Thursday, January 9.
Students who register for Spring classes but did not have at least one (1) credit hour registered prior to 12:01 am EST on Monday, January 6, will be charged a $100 late registration fee. Questions about tuition and fees must be addressed to Student Business Services.
Schedules are final, and students are both grade and fee liable for any courses on their schedule after drop/add ends.
If you receive an error message (a red X) when attempting to register, the course may be reserved or for students on another FSU campus. You must contact the academic department that teaches that course with any questions.
You can check many of your remaining requirements or course needs by reviewing your Academic Requirements Report through Student Center. Previous advising reports can also be found in Campus Connect.
Academic advising availability
Academic advising for all undergraduate majors in COSSPP is conducted through the Office of Academic Affairs advising office.
January 6-10 (covering Spring Drop/Add)
All COSSPP advising services are available via moderated Zoom call. Due to time and space constraints, there are no in person drop-ins or scheduled appointments. See our drop/add information page for more information.
- Join at fsu.zoom.us/j/92825563505
- Sign in from 8:30–11:30 AM and 1:00-3:30 PM each day (all times EST)
- You must be signed into Zoom through your FSU account to access the call. See the “Authentication issues” section on our Drop/Add information page for assistance.
- There may be an extended wait time before being admitted to the drop/add Zoom call depending on how many students are in line.
After Drop/Add (starting January 13)
Regular Spring advising hours resume on January 13.
Scheduled appointments can be accessed virtually through Campus Connect.
For information on virtual drop-ins or for how to schedule an appointment, see our how-to guide.
Holds Preventing Registration
Click on the hold and read the description to see how it can be lifted. Academic advisors cannot lift holds from other departments/offices on campus.
- The SS Progress Check Ready Note hold does not block registration.
- The Summer Waiver Requirement to-do item does not prevent registration, but should be completed and submitted with an justification (e.g. “Additional summer coursework will delay my graduation timeline.”)
- The University Academic Progress hold is cleared by the student – follow the instructions in the hold details.
- Questions about Mapping holds from the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy should be sent to COSS-admissions-mapping@fsu.edu or you can attend the advising zoom call above.
Changing Your Major
To change your major within the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy (see the list of COSSPP majors) you must be on track for the new major and meet with a COSSPP academic advisor. Being on track includes registering for needed courses.
To change to a major in another college, you must speak with an advisor for that program.
COSSPP Major Course Lists
Course lists of majors in our college are found on the course lists page of our website.
Applying for Graduation
The Spring 2025 graduation application through Student Center will be open January 13-24, 2025.
If you do not apply during the open application period, you will have to meet with a COSSPP academic advisor to verify you are on track to graduate this semester. They will initiate the undergraduate late add to graduation form through DocuSign, which you must then sign and submit.
To apply, you must at minimum be on track to have 120 earned, unduplicated credit hours at the end of Spring 2025.
Course Drop, Withdrawal, and Academic Reinstatement Petitions
Students seeking retroactive course drops or semester withdrawals must first submit a petition through our online petition form.
