Summer A/B drop/add opens at 12:01 AM on Saturday, May 8.
Dates for the full drop/add period are 12:01 am, May 8 – 11:59 PM, May 13.
- You must have registered for at least one (1) credit hour prior to 12:00 am, May 10, or the University may apply a $100 late registration fee to your account.
- Check your schedule and drop any unwanted courses before 11:59 pm, May 13, to avoid fee and grade liability even if you believe that you should be dropped due to first-day non-attendance. You are fee liable for all classes on your schedule after 11:59pm on May 13.
Advising availability and accessibility is altered through May 14.
Read carefully for advising availability and staff contact information.
Advising staff email availability: Please allow at least 2 business days for advisors to respond during this busy time of year. Repeatedly emailing the same question may delay a response as new messages bump email threads to the end of the email queue.
Advising hours and availability for Summer 2021: All COSSPP advising services will continue to operate virtually through the Summer B term. Information about in-person services will be sent out as they resume later this summer.
Drop/Add advising availability: May 10-14 – all advising will be accessed via moderated Zoom call at the link below. Students may sign in from 8:30-11:30 AM and 1:00-3:30 PM. Students must be signed in through their FSU account to access the call.
Note: there may be an extended wait time before being admitted to the main Zoom call depending on how many students are in line.

Summer 2021 normal advising hours resume May 17 – Advising services will continue to be accessed virtually through Campus Connect. For information on how to schedule an appointment or access virtual drop-ins, see the how-to guide on our website.
If you have a hold on your account, follow the instructions provided by the hold to clear it.
Follow the directions provided to you by “My Holds” to request the removal of the hold. These may take a few hours, or up to one day, for processing.
- If you have a “SS Progress Check Ready Note” indicator on your account, it does not prevent registration.
- Map holds – Email your current academic advisor to see if you may remain in your major.
- If you have a “Off-Track” map hold, your academic advisor will be able to lift the hold after reviewing required steps with you.
- If you have a “Must Change Major” map hold, your academic advisor will counsel you on next steps to be able to have the hold lifted.
Things to remember before meeting with your advisor
- Take responsibility for your class schedule – identify classes and sections that interest you.
- Become familiar with your Academic Requirements Report (ARR). Look for unmet requirement areas listed in the AAR in red as unsatisfied.
- Summer 2021 Calendar: Mark your calendar with important semester dates/deadlines, particularly the 7thand 12thweek deadlines.
- Resolve any outstanding holds you have on your FSU account (health insurance, student financial agreement, financial, etc.)
- Check on the status of your Financial Aid. Check for any outstanding requirements or holds such as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), student loans, etc.
CHECK your schedule before the drop/add deadline date. You will be FEE LIABLE for any classes on your schedule after drop/add has ended.
First day attendance policy
Even with remote and online classes, First Day Attendance is still required per University Policy.
For class(es) that are remote/online, make sure you complete your first day attendance by logging into Canvas on the first day of class and follow the instructor’s instructions. If you are not able to access a course that you are currently registered for, contact the listed professor.
If you do not complete First Day Attendance in a course, you will be dropped from the class. Remember, your advisor cannot place you back into courses!
Frequently asked questions
Q. I met with an advisor during last semester/Orientation but I’m not sure what classes to take.
A. Advisors upload notes and advising sheets to Campus Connect. Review that sheet BEFORE coming in to speak with someone, as some of your questions may be answered there.
- How to find reports in Campus Connect: Log in to Campus Connect
- How to find your Academic Requirements Report: myFSU portal > Student Center “SC” > My Academics > Advising Tools > My Academic Requirements
- Suggested Schedule order: Major Milestones > Gen Eds > Major > University Reqs > Minor (if required) > Second Major > Electives
Q. How do I get into a class that is already full?
A. Academic advisors CANNOT place you into a class, but you can:
- Contact the professor about a wait list or getting added to the course.
- Contact the department that offers the class. Example: ECO = Economics or CHM = Chemistry
- Wait for a spot to open during drop/add.
Q. Why do I keep getting a red X/error message when I try to register for a class?
A. Comments will appear next to the red X explaining why you cannot add the class. Commonly, the class is reserved for majors, honors etc. or is offered on another campus. Find a different class, register for a different section, or contact the department that offers the class for help.
Special Note: College of Business classes do not open to non-majors until the 3rd day of drop/add.
Q. How do I get this hold off? Why do I have a hold?
A. See the information above about holds.
