Taking a Course S/U
S/U grading requests are submitted online through Student Central. Instructions are on the Registrar’s website.
- Students may elect to take one elective course on an S/U basis in each semester.
- Courses taken on an S/U basis cannot be counted towards a major, minor, or Liberal Studies requirements.
- Except for students in their first term at FSU, at least a 2.5 grade point average is required.
- S/U requests (or requests to change S/U back to a letter grade) for Summer B courses submitted after the deadline will be denied.
- Complete policies outlining S/U requirements can be found online in the FSU undergraduate bulletin.
Dropping a Course
The deadline to drop a Summer B course without Dean’s permission is Friday, May 28. After May 28, students must request to use their one-time late drop to drop a Summer B course, if it has not previously been used. Students looking to withdraw from the University for the entire Summer semester (drop their entire course load) must contact the Office of Withdrawal Services.
It is your responsibility to verify with the Office of Financial Aid and/or other aid and scholarship programs the impact dropping a course may have on your financial aid package.
If you are on the Summer 2021 graduation list and drop a course needed to complete any graduation requirement, you will be deleted from the graduation list.
Instructions to drop a course:
- In Student Central, go to My Class > Enrollment: Drop Classes, and choose the correct term.
- Your schedule for the semester will appear. Look above the schedule, and click the blue hyperlink that says “Click here to Drop a class for a closed enrollment term.”
- Click to acknowledge instructions and the Academic Honor Policy, again select the correct term, and your schedule will appear again.
- Select the course(s) you will to drop, and click “Drop Selected Classes.”
- Follow all prompts to make sure the process is completed. Be sure to verify that the course has actually dropped from your schedule – it is your responsibility to confirm a successful course drop.
Speaking with an Academic Advisor
Throughout the Summer semester and into Fall, all COSSPP advising services are accessible through Campus Connect. Our online how-to guide shows step-by-step how to access either scheduled appointments or virtual drop-ins.
- Morning (after 9:30 am) and early afternoon (before 2:00 pm) drop-in availability is often limited throughout late May and through June as our advisors also meet with incoming students for Orientation advising.
- Summer C Drop/Add advising will be available through open Zoom call the week of June 21-25. Reminders with that link will be sent the week before and at the start of that week.
- In-person scheduled appointments (but not drop-ins) will again be available after the start of the Summer C session and will be able to be scheduled through Campus Connect. Additional information will be sent out at that time.
Applying for Summer Graduation
Students planning to graduate this semester must be on track to have a minimum of 120 credit hours between earned credit and current enrollment.
- Once the graduation application period closes, the Academic Dean’s office will begin preliminary review of clearances, and students who are not on track to complete degree requirements will be notified by FSU email. Students who are on track pending satisfactory completion of grades do not receive additional information about their application from the Dean’s office.
- Neither applying for graduation nor participation in a commencement ceremony at the end of the semester guarantee completion of degree – all university, college, major, and (if required) minor requirements must be satisfied after Summer 2021 grades post.
- To verify that you are on track for graduation, you can always speak with one of our academic advisors.
- COSSPP specific information can be found on our website. Additional university information – including about cap and gown details or other information about the Commencement ceremony – can be found on the Registrar’s website.
