This message was originally sent to upper-division students in the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy.
The end of the twelfth week of the semester is the deadline to be able to submit a one-time upper-division late drop petition.
Late drop requests must be submitted by April 5. Any request submitted after the deadline must be submitted on the basis of medical/mental health or personal hardship or will be automatically denied.
Need to use a one-time late drop?
Students may request to drop a class between the end of the seventh week and the end of the twelfth week of a given semester, based on the number of earned credit hours:
- Less than 60: a cumulative of two classes may be dropped.
- 60 or more and until graduation: a student may drop only one course.
Courses dropped after the end of the seventh week of classes will appear on a student’s transcript with a “W” grade notation. A course dropped in this manner does not impact a student’s GPA.
Tuition charges remain for any course that a student drops through this process.
If a student has already used their one-time upper-division late drop, the only way to request a course drop after the end of the seventh week of classes is to petition for a medical/mental health or a personal hardship course drop. In either case, cause-specific supporting documentation of circumstances is required.
How to submit a late drop request
Follow these instructions (also found on our website) to submit a late drop request:
- Log in to your my.fsu.edu account.
- We recommend using a computer, not your phone to generate the drop form.
- Under the “MY COURSES” tab (located in the center of the page), click the pencil-drop icon.
- On the “Drop Classes” page, select the term (semester) of the course you wish to drop (e.g. Fall 2023, Spring 2024, etc.) and click Continue.
- Do not skip this step – Click the red button that says, “Click here to drop a class for a closed enrollment term.”
If you do not click this button, the system will generate an error message. - Read the instructions and/or acknowledgements and click Continue.
- Select the term of the class which you wish to drop.
- When your schedule appears again, select the course that you want to drop, and click the “Drop Selected Classes” link.
- Download and save the generated drop form.
- If a form does not appear, check to make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off
- Do not sign the generated form – the signature lines are for the Academic Dean’s office to signify approval of the drop.
- Send the generated drop form to coss-academic-dean@fsu.edu
