Requirements for Admission to COSSPP Majors

The College of Social Sciences & Public Policy offers 17 undergraduate majors under 11 degree programs to students at Florida State.

Students applying to transfer with less than 60 earned hours or without an AA from a Florida public institution should contact the College’s Academic Mapping Coordinator to verify prerequisite requirements based on prior credit hours earned and/or semesters of coursework attempted. These transfer students are still required to meet the Florida State University transfer admissions requirements associated with the number of hours they will have earned upon transferring to FSU.

• All COSSPP programs require transfer applicants to have a minimum of (3 hours) of College-level English & (6 hours) of College-level math if you have over 40 hours earned
• All COSSPP programs require transfer applicants to have a minimum of (3 hours) of College-level English & (3 hours) College level math if you have under 40 hours earned

• Items marked must complete, must earn, or required are required prerequisite coursework or other requirements.
• Items marked strongly recommended are not required for certification or admissions to the major but either will help prepare students for later coursework in the major or will streamline FSU graduation requirements.

Certification to Upper-Division for All Majors

• Must complete: Minimum 52 earned credit hours
  • Must complete: English and Quantitative/Logical Thinking (math) requirements for General Education completed (not in progress). C- or better.
  • Must complete: Minimum half (18 hours) of General Education requirements completed (not in progress)
• Required: Mapping on track (map status 0) within the major

Civics & Liberty Studies (launches Fall 2026)

• Note: Students cannot begin enrolling in this major until Fall 2026. FSU is not yet authorized to enroll F-1 international students in the Bachelor’s degree in Civics and Liberty Studies. International students who need an F-1 visa, should NOT apply to this majors at this time.

Economics

• Prerequisite GPA required: Must earn minimum 2.5 GPA across both ECO X013 and ECO x023 combined.
  • Must complete Principles of Macroeconomics (ECO x013)
    • C grade or better 
  • Must complete Principles of Microeconomics (ECO x023)
    • C grade or better
• Please note:
  • Minimum grade combinations for Principles Courses to earn minimum 2.5 GPA:
    • (Course 1: B or better and Course 2: C or better)
    • CLEP credit can be accepted to fulfill a Principles Course as long as the official AP score report reflects a score of 3 or higher.
      • If one Principles Course is test credit, the letter grade for the second course must be B- or better or test credit as well.
• Strongly recommend completing an approved Statistics course prior to applying for admissions
  • STA 2023, STA 2122, or STA 4321 required to complete graduation requirements in major.
    • C- or better is required.
• Strongly recommend completing an approved Calculus course prior to applying for admissions
  • MAC 2233 or MAC 2311 required to complete graduation requirements in major.
    • C- or better is required.
  • Note: Prerequisites to these calculus courses are required before enrolling.

Geography
