Distance Learning

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy proudly hosts one of the six fully online undergraduate programs at FSU through its Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (ISS) major.

Admissions

The Distance Learning program for Social Sciences is designed for upper-division students looking to complete their degree online. Students transferring to FSU should review the admissions checklist and major prerequisites. Contact the COSSPP mapping coordinator with any questions that you may have about the admissions process and requirements.

Current FSU students may meet with any COSSPP academic advisor to discuss the Distance Learning program or can contact the Distance Learning advisor, Abigail Jonckheere, to schedule a time to review their course history and discuss options for a path to graduation through completing the ISS major online.

Coursework

The online ISS program allows students to tailor their degree to their interests and goals by taking courses across eight different participating departments: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, and Urban & Regional Planning.

The ISS major consists of 43 hours of credit (at least 21 of which must be at the 3/4000-level) including:

  • A primary concentration of 18 hours from one of the listed departments
  • A secondary concentration of 12 hours from a second listed department
  • 12 hours of remaining coursework from any other participating department or ISS elective courses
  • Required ISS 3923 Interdisciplinary Forum (1 credit hour)
  • Required ISS 4304 Contemporary Social Problems and Integrative Solutions (3 credit hours)
    • May be used towards any concentration area or remaining coursework
