Admissions
The Distance Learning programs for EMIS and ISS are designed for upper-division students looking to complete their degree online. Students transferring to FSU should review the admissions checklist and major prerequisites. Contact the COSSPP mapping coordinator with any questions that you may have about the admissions process and requirements.
Current FSU students may meet with any COSSPP academic advisor to discuss the Distance Learning programs. They can contact the Distance Learning advisor for ISS and EMIS at cosspp-socialsciences-dl@fsu.edu to schedule a time to review their course history and discuss options for a path to graduation through completing the ISS or EMIS degree online.
Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Major Coursework (ISS)
The online ISS program allows students to tailor their degree to their interests and goals by taking courses across eight different participating departments: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, and Urban & Regional Planning.
The ISS major consists of 43 hours of credit (at least 21 of which must be at the 3/4000-level) including:
- A primary concentration of 18 hours from one of the listed departments
- A secondary concentration of 12 hours from a second listed department
- 12 hours of remaining coursework from any other participating department or ISS elective courses
- Required: ISS 3923 Interdisciplinary Forum (1 credit hour)
- Required: ISS 4304 Contemporary Social Problems and Integrative Solutions (3 credit hours)
- May be used towards any concentration area or remaining coursework
Emergency Management and Intelligence Studies (EMIS)
The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Intelligence Studies (EMIS) offers majors in Emergency Management or Intelligence Studies.
Emergency Management Major:
The major in Emergency Management (EM) prepares students to become leaders in emergency management and homeland security. Students in this major will learn key principles of EM policy and planning, primarily through an analysis of real-world scenarios and problems. Graduates of the major are equipped to design resilient systems, support vulnerable populations, and lead effective emergency operations in government, nonprofit, and private sectors.
The EM major consists of 40 hours of credit (at least 21 of which must be at the 3/4000-level) including:
- 4 hours of Core Courses:

Intelligence Studies Major:
The major in Intelligence Studies (IS) prepares students to become leaders in the fields of homeland security and intelligence. Students in IS will focus on all aspects of the intelligence process. This track also instructs students in the formulation of national security and intelligence policy by focusing on intelligence collection and reporting, as well as emphasizing the importance of intelligence partnerships.
The IS major consists of 40 hours of credit (at least 21 of which must be at the 3/4000-level) including:
