Dr. Holway teaches courses in UT’s Applied Sociology program. Her research interests include sexual and reproductive health, adolescents and young adults, health disparities, and relationships and families.

She graduated from Florida State University with an M.S. in Sociology in 2010 and a Ph.D. in Sociology in 2013.

Originally from Rochester, NY, Holway made the choice to come to FSU because of its reputation in the fields of sociology and demography.

The enriching and rigorous coursework helped build the foundation for her career, but the numerous opportunities to work alongside top scholars in the fields of sociology and demography impacted her the most during her time in Tallahassee.

“My time in the Sociology program at FSU provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct meaningful research that has implications for policy issues,” Dr. Holway said. “This led to many career successes, including securing a postdoctoral position after graduation, and finally a tenure-track position.”

Outside of her academic work, she was involved with the Sociology Graduate Student Union and was a Program for Instructional Excellence Teaching Associate within the Department of Sociology.

Though her time at FSU is well behind her, the relationships she made here endure to this day, through ongoing collaborations with many of her graduate school mentors.

“All of my career successes wouldn’t have been possible without the outstanding mentorship and continued support of the faculty,” she said.
