Apply for FSU’s graduate certificate in Digital Applied Social Science (DASS) by April 1 to develop advanced research and problem-solving skills.
FSU’s College of Social Sciences & Public Policy and College of Communication & Information offer a graduate certificate designed to address social science questions using cutting-edge digital tools and ethical frameworks.
This program provides an excellent opportunity to combine the strengths of the social sciences and communication fields through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates digital techniques and ethics.
“The DASS certificate was designed for students who want to engage the digital world in thoughtful, methodologically strong, and ethically grounded ways,” said DASS Certificate Program Director Maria C. Ramos, Ph.D. “It gives students hands-on experience with powerful computational tools while helping them develop the judgment needed to use those tools well across many professional and academic contexts.”
DASS students gain hands-on experience with computational tools, including network analysis, natural language processing, social simulations, and generative AI, through the following required courses.
- LIS 5411: Introduction to Information Policy
- SYA 5306: Data and Society
- SYA 5340: Computational Tools for Social Science Research
- SYO 5936: Media and Society
Graduates of the DASS program are positioned to pursue careers at the intersection of data science and social science. Potential career paths include social research, public policy, marketing, communications, business intelligence, and academia.
Interested students must apply before completing 6 credit hours and submit a statement of purpose, a letter of recommendation, an academic transcript, and a proposed program of study.
