If you’re a graduate student interested in earning more than one master’s or professional degree, apply for a joint pathways program in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy!
Joint pathways allow graduate students to earn two master’s degrees or a master’s and a professional degree from two academic degree programs. These programs allow students to explore and gain expertise in multiple subject areas, enhancing career opportunities.
The college offers joint pathways in:
- JD/MA in Law and International Affairs
- JD/MPA in Law and Public Administration
- JD/MSP in Law and Urban and Regional Planning
- MPA/ MS in Public Administration and Criminology
- MSP/ MS in Urban and Regional Planning and Demography
- MSP/MS in Urban and Regional Planning and International Affairs
- MSP/MSGIS in Urban and Regional Planning and Geography
- MSP/ MPA in Urban and Regional Planning and Public Administration
- MSP/ MPH in Urban and Regional Planning and Public Health
- MSW/ MPA in Social Work (Social Leadership Traditional or Advanced) and Public Administration
Interested applicants must apply and be admitted to each program separately. Admissions requirements vary, but may include things such as a GPA requirement or a qualifying score on an entrance exam. Once admitted, students enroll in both programs as part of the joint pathway.
All graduate degree programs must have at least 30 unique hours of coursework. Upon approval, joint graduate pathways allow graduate or professional courses in excess of the 30-hour minimum to be shared with, or double-counted, toward both degree programs. This allows students to earn two degrees for fewer total credit hours than would normally be required if both academic degree programs were taken independently.
After completing the programs students receive two diplomas, one for each degree.
