Florida State University’s Reubin O’D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy offers a variety of certificate programs to enrich students’ educational experiences beyond traditional degree offerings.
At the Askew School, all students, including undergraduates, graduates, and non-degree seekers, can pursue certificate programs.
Certificates are earned through taking additional credit hours outside of the major course requirements, which are limited to classes specifically applicable to the individual certificate program.
Enrollment in certificate programs offers students opportunities for research, campus involvement, and connections with faculty.
Many exceptional students, like Renzo Nucci and Sina Jangjoo, credit their enrollment in certificate programs in advancing their college experience and career.
Renzo Nucci (B.S. International Affairs, Spring ‘24) completed the US Intelligence Studies Certificate and the Emergency Management Certificate offered by the Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMHS) program.
“Courses such as Global Security and Fusion and Introduction to Terrorism taught me about current national and international security issues and demonstrated the importance of intelligence in international affairs,” Nucci said. “These courses and certificates have greatly influenced my career path, leading me to pursue a career in intelligence and diplomacy. Additionally, the EMHS program as a whole has been essential to my success, offering me conferences, internships, and research opportunities. I strongly recommend any student consider taking classes or pursuing certificates with EMHS.”
Master of Public Administration alumnus and current Public Administration Ph.D. Candidate, Sina Jangjoo, shares that graduate students pursuing advanced degrees can expect similar benefits when enrolling in one of our certificate programs.
“My experience earning the Civic and Nonprofit Management certificate at the Askew School was invaluable. The program provided a strong foundation for my Ph.D. research by delving into the unique character of the nonprofit sector,” Jangjoo said. “It offered a perfect blend of practicality and insightful theory. I gained a toolkit of techniques for managing these organizations, along with a broad range of knowledge and skills, from financial management to volunteer coordination and retention.”
