Associate Professor of Economics Paul Beaumont, Ph.D., will retire in Spring 2024 after 36 years of service at Florida State University.

Since joining FSU, Dr. Beaumont has taught Economics to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students. He’s also aided the Department of Mathematics as a Courtesy Professor.
Dr. Beaumont has shown dedication to mentoring his students. He has chaired or co-chaired 12 Ph.D. Dissertation Committees and been a member of 54. He has also been a member of 48 Master’s Thesis and Extended Research Paper Committees.
Due to his excellence in instruction, his students have nominated him for the Graduate Teaching Award three times, in 2008, 2013, and 2020. In 2023 he received the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s Tenure Track Teaching Award.
Dr. Beaumont earned his B.S. in Economics from Purdue University in 1974 and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. He was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Purdue from 1981 until he joined FSU in 1988.
In 1989 he published a book titled ECESIS: An Interregional Economic-Demographic Model of the United States with Garland Publishing. In 2018 it was reissued by Taylor & Francis as a part of their Econometrics Routledge Library Editions.
Throughout his career Dr. Beaumont has taught in many countries, such as Spain, Italy, France, Japan, Lebanon, UAE, and Syria. He’s taught subjects such as Financial Economics, Time Series Analysis, Data Analysis, Forecasting, and Computational Methods.
Dr. Beaumont has also contributed significantly to Economic research. In addition to his 1989 book, he has been a part of four edited volumes and book chapters and has written over 20 peer-reviewed articles.
Although Dr. Beaumont is leaving Florida State, his legacy of research and mentorship will remain.
