Florida State University’s Public Administration Programs Rise in Latest Global and National Rankings

Florida State University’s Reubin O’D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy has once again earned high marks for its master’s and doctoral programs, recognizing the school’s top-notch curriculum and hands-on learning. The Askew School, part of FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, moved up five spots to No. 4 nationally and nine spots to No. 14 globally in ShanghaiRanking’s 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS).

The GRAS highlights the best institutions globally based on world-class faculty, world-class output, high-quality research, research impact and international collaboration. This latest rise in the rankings is driven by its international academic awards, highly regarded journal articles and impactful scholarly publications.

COSSPP Professor Helps Unveil Innovative Tool to Measure Healthy Aging

A Florida State University College of Social Sciences and Public Policy researcher is part of a pioneering team that has developed a new measure to understand and support healthy aging, with the potential to change how health care workers, employers, and policymakers assist older adults in remaining active and engaged.

ISS Assistant Teaching Professor Receives American Sociological Association Award

FSU Interdisciplinary Social Science Assistant Teaching Professor Maria Cristina Ramos, Ph.D., was awarded the Outstanding Recent Contribution Award from the American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Social Psychology Section.

Her first-author article, titled “Identity Networks as a New Frontier: Conceptualizing, Mapping, and Analyzing Identity Structures and Their Impact on Well-Being,” offers a cohesive approach to addressing sociology’s fragmented efforts to conceptualize, measure, and examine identity structures as networks. In this article, Dr. Ramos takes a network-based approach to capture identity structures.

Research Spotlight: Ready for the Next Storm? An Analysis of Florida’s Hurricane Preparedness for its Residents with Disabilities

Anne Barrett, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology, Mildred and Claude Pepper Eminent Scholar, co-authored “Ready for the next storm? An analysis of Florida’s hurricane preparedness for its residents with disabilities,” alongside fellow FSU researchers: sociology doctoral candidate Hope Mimbs, sociology doctoral student Brianna Soulie, and postdoctoral scholar Jessica Noblitt. FSU Integrated Studies Professor Emelie Griffin Wins National Poetry Award

Emelie Griffin, Ph.D., – FSU Integrated Studies Professor – was named the Spring 2025 Black River Chapbook Competition winner by Black Lawrence Press for her poetry collection California Pompeii.

She was selected from a competitive pool of applicants for this national award recognizing outstanding literary work, which will lead to the publication of her chapbook in February 2027.

COSSPP’s World Affairs Program Attends NCSC in Washington, D.C. 

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s World Affairs Program (WAP) had a successful competition in Washington, D.C., Oct. 30–Nov. 2, representing FSU at the National Collegiate Security Conference (NCSC). 

WAP hosts the university’s Model United Nations (UN) team, which is currently ranked No. 18 in North America by Best Delegate for the 2024–25 school year.
