Florida State University’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy recognized civility and civic engagement during the week of October 27-30, bringing students, alumni, faculty, and friends together for a lineup of enriching events focused on civil discourse and political leadership.
The events explored the importance of cooperation and integrity in public leadership and provided practical insight into career pathways. Through conversations with alumni, authors, policymakers, and global leaders, students learned about the opportunities and responsibilities that come with civility and civic engagement.
COSSPP kicked off the week with the “Careers in Politics Networking Night,” in which students connected directly with esteemed alumni speakers Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottamp, Jennifer Green, and Drew Piers. Attendees gained practical insight into industry expectations and opportunities for involvement in public service.

His reflections on restoring balance and cooperation in American politics offered timely perspectives for students aspiring toward public leadership.
