COSSPP Seeks Communications Graduate Assistant for Fall 2026

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy seeks a graduate assistant with exceptional writing and editing skills and a strong interest in organizational social media management and visual content creation.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role will support the College’s overall communications strategy.

Position Details:

  • 20 hours per week in person on a set weekly schedule.
  • Ability to attend events outside standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), with adjusted office hours to compensate for event time, as needed.
  • Includes stipend and tuition waivers covering 12-15 credit hours

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit news and feature stories.
  • Manage social media activities, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement.
  • Update and maintain website content using WordPress.
  • Capture photography at events and assist with visual content production.
  • Organize content archives and assist with marketing and administrative tasks.

Qualifications & Expectations:

1. Strong Writing and Editing Skills (Top Priority)

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing with close attention to detail.
  • Candidates with experience in news writing and AP style are preferred.

2. Excellent Organizational and Project Management Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Responsible for tracking project progress and keeping management systems updated.

3. Social Media and Web Management Proficiency

  • Platforms used: Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn.
  • Website management via WordPress.
  • Responsibilities include content creation, scheduling, engagement, monthly performance reports, and website updates.
  • Prior experience managing social media for an organization is preferred, but on-the-job training is provided.

4. Proficiency with Office & Digital Tools

  • Daily use of Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe products is a plus, though training is available.

5. Basic Photography and Photo Editing Skills

  • Preferred but not required; training is available.

Requirements:

  • Ability to commit to 20 hours per week in person on a set schedule.
  • Willingness to attend events outside of regular business hours, with flexible office hours to accommodate.
  • Must download social media apps on a personal device to access administrative functions.
  • Must have or be willing to create a personal LinkedIn and Facebook account to manage organizational accounts.
