COSSPP Student Camila Aponte (Political Science and International Affairs ’24) placed 3rd out of 29 presentations at the Association of Private Enterprise 2024 Education Undergraduate Research Competition, representing 12 universities and colleges. The DeVoe L. Moore Center had four students presenting in the competition.

To be considered for participation in the competition, Aponte had to submit an abstract that was chosen by an external panel of professors.

“Not every students who applies is selected to compete so it is an honor even to participate in the competition,” said Crystal Taylor, Ph.D., Aponte’s mentor.

Once selected, she had to put together a poster and present her quantitative education policy work to professors, professionals, and students attending the conference.

A panel of conference judges made the selection. Camila took home 3rd place for the DeVoe L. Moore Center, the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, and Florida State University!

“Ms. Camila Aponte’s honors thesis research with me has been a wonderful scholarly and professional development journey transitioning from my Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program mentee to my policy research intern, to my Honors Thesis mentee,” Dr. Taylor said. “I am proud of her for all of her work, as she has become a formidable scholar. This was her first research competition and her first time presenting at the national level.”
