Jessica Kleinmetz – a third-year student majoring in Political Science with a minor in Communications – was elected as the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy Seat 7 Senator because of her dedication to philanthropy within the Florida State University community.
FSU’s Student Senate is made up of 80 Senators from across the University who allocate funding to student organizations, create policies that improve campus safety and function, and represent their peers to the broader Florida State community.
“Being a senator is an amazing experience, specifically representing the COSSPP (College of Social Sciences and Public Policy),” said Kleinmetz. “I am passionate about representing others and having a voice. I am so excited to continue in the footsteps of other COSSPP senators and make changes for students.”
Kleinmetz is also involved in numerous organizations, including Women in Pre-Law, Phi Alpha Delta, and the Forward Party on campus. As an aspiring lawyer, she is particularly passionate about her commitments to Women in Pre-Law and Phi Alpha Delta. She credits Florida State’s “hardworking and determined” students for making her time at Florida State so impactful.
She says her most impactful experience at Florida State was, “Being accepted into the Donald J. Weidner Summer for Undergraduates at FSU Law School was an amazing opportunity. I met so many different people and was able to connect with many mentors. It was so beneficial and interesting to work closely with other strong and powerful students.”
The connections she made at the summer program have been invaluable. She says Dean Benavides – Florida State University College of Law’s Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Advancement – has been her “biggest cheerleader” and has been integral in shaping her future.
After graduation, Kleinmetz plans to attend law school at Florida State with a focus on business law.
