Ronny Legare – a fourth-year student majoring in Economics – is graduating this spring from the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, but not before making his mark on the university.

When asked why he chose FSU, Legare said, “Every school that I toured told me how great they were and how lucky I should be to be a part of their story. But when I toured Florida State, I was told how great I could be and how lucky they were to be a part of my story. FSU champions the three torches of strength, skill, and character and welcomes students to embrace these torches while giving them an unconquered community that supports them. Florida State’s community is unlike any other and provides resources and opportunities to succeed.”
During his time at FSU, Legare has taken every opportunity to get involved on campus. He has been a member of FSU’s Scuba Diving Club and Economics Club and has held leadership positions with FSU’s Mock Trial Team and Skeet and Trap Shooting Team. Legare has also served on FSU’s Student Conduct and Community Standards Board. He is a member of multiple honors societies, namely Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Kappa Phi and Garnet and Gold Key. During the fall of his sophomore year, Legare served as a Teaching Assistant for FSU’s exploratory majors, helping other students find their passions.
This past year, Legare’s involvement continued to grow. “In the fall of 2021, I had the opportunity to be on FSU’s Homecoming Court and help serve as a connection between alumni and current students by representing our unconquered community,” Legare said. “This spring semester I was inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame for Garnet and Gold Key, FSU’s oldest and most prestigious honor society, as well as into the Torchbearer 100 community. I look forward to being inducted into FSU’s prestigious Garnet and Gold Scholar Society this semester. I am proud to say that I have done all of this while serving as an ambassador for FSU, giving tours to prospective students and engaging in outreach programs at TCC.”
While campaigning for Homecoming Court, Legare saw the impact he has had on students as an ambassador for FSU. “During voting, I had a student walk up to me on Landis Green and start talking with me,” Legare said. “She asked me if I do tours at FSU, and I said yes. She smiled and then told me that I was the reason why she had come to FSU and thanked me for all I had done as her tour guide. At that moment all that mattered was that I made a difference for one student. I am proud and humbled by the fact that I have impacted many while also being impacted myself.”
Within the college, Legare has been a part of the Unconquered by Debt program, serving as a certified financial peer mentor for the Stavros Center. “This program gave me the pleasure to help students start on the path of achieving their personal finance goals,” Legare said.
Legare will be graduating this Saturday with a B.S. in Economics and is looking forward to starting law school this fall.
“FSU has prepared me not to fear the change that comes with the uncertainty of life,” Legare said. “In order to make a difference, we have to be ready to face the unknown. I started off as an exploratory student only knowing that I wanted to go to law school. With the help of great advisors, I was able to confidently declare a major in economics and a minor in biological sciences. My time within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy has allowed me to explore my interdisciplinary passions in both economics and biology and has opened doors into areas of law I’m interested in, such as medical malpractice.”
Legare looks forward to serving individuals in his future career as a lawyer and giving back to the communities he lives in.
“Regardless of which law school I attend or specialization I end up pursuing, I will forever bleed garnet and gold,” Legare said. “Not only do I look forward to serving individuals through my career path, but I also look forward to helping the next generation of students at Florida State as an alum.”
We wish him the best of luck in this latest endeavor!
