
The College of Social Science and Public Policy has announced two eminent scholar chairs and six endowed professorships for Fall 2024.
These faculty members were chosen for these positions across the college to support Florida State University’s mission to conduct innovative research and provide high-quality instruction.
We warmly welcome each of our newest eminent scholar chairs and endowed professors!
Eminent Scholar Chairs
Anne Barrett, Ph.D., has been named the Mildred and Claude Pepper Eminent Scholar from January 2022 to August 2026. As an existing faculty member, Dr. Barrett mainly researches gender and aging, subjective aging, ageism, and cultural constructions of later life. The funds that come with the scholar chair position will fund these interests as well as student support, research support collaborating faculty and students, symposia or speakers, and/or research expenses.
Hongtao Yi, Ph.D., has been named the Reubin O’D Askew Eminent Scholar Chair from August 2024 to July 2029. As an existing faculty member, Dr. Yi mainly researches public administration, public policy, energy and environment, and network governance. The funds that come with the scholar chair position will fund these interests and their research, provide student support, and programmatic or research support for the Askew School.
Each of these distinguished faculty members joins our college’s existing Eminent Scholar Chairs, including:
- Tony Kwasnica, Ph.D. – The Rod and Hope Brim Eminent Scholar Chair in Economics
- Keith Ihlanfeldt, Ph.D. – The DeVoe Moore Eminent Scholar and Professor of Economics
- Mark Issac, Ph.D. – The John and Hallie Quinn Eminent Scholar Chair for the Renewal of American Heritage and American Free Enterprise
- Keon-Hyung Lee, Ph.D. – The Arnold L. and Priscilla Moss Greenfield Eminent Scholar Chair in Public Debt Management
Endowed Professorships
Anne Chin, Ph.D., has been named the Harrison V. Chase Professor of Geography from August 2024 to July 2029. Dr. Chin joined the faculty as Chair of the Department of Geography this fall. She researches human interactions with river systems and societal responses to landscape change, with implications and applications for environmental management and policy. The funds that come with the professorship will support her scholarship by funding research, travel, and students in graduate assistantships.
Mark Horner, Ph.D., has been named the Earl B. and Sophia H. Shaw Professor in Geography from August 2024 to July 2029. As an existing faculty member, Dr. Horner mainly researches commuting, land use and their interrelationships, aging and vulnerable populations, transportation needs, and measuring accessibility to goods, health services, and opportunities. The funds that come with the professorship will be used to support their research, student support, and programmatic or research support for the unit.
Carl Kitchens, Ph.D., has been named the Charles and Joan Haworth Professor of Economics from August 2024 to July 2029. As an existing faculty member, Dr. Kitchens mainly researches applications to law and economics, health, and development. The funds that come with the professorship will support his scholarship by funding research, travel, and students in graduate assistantships.
Keon-Hyung Lee, Ph.D., has been named the Arnold L. & Priscilla Moss Greenfield Professor of Public Administration & Policy from August 2024 to July 2029. As an existing faculty member and Director of the Askew School, Dr. Lee mainly researches health service administration, health finance, health policy analysis, and performance management. The funds that come with the professorship will support his scholarship and teaching, as well as provide funds for enhancing student support and programming.
Deana Rohlinger, Ph.D., has been named the Mildred and Claude Pepper Distinguished Professor in Sociology from August 2024 to July 2029. She also serves as COSSPP’s Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Community Engagement. Dr. Rohlinger mainly researches gender, media, and social movements. The funds that come with the professorship will be used to support her research and students, as well as provide additional programmatic and research support for the department.
Mark Souva, Ph.D., has been named the Paul Piccard Distinguished Professor in Political Science from August 2024 to July 2029. As an existing faculty member, Dr. Souva mainly researches conflict processes, economic sanctions, military power, and military spending. The funds that come with the professorship will be used to support his research and students, as well as provide additional programmatic and research support for the department.

- John Reynolds, Ph.D. – The Fraternal Order of Eagles Memorial Professorship in the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy
- Matthew Hauer, Ph.D. – The Charles B. Nam Associate Professor in the Sociology of Population
- Eric Coleman, Ph.D. – The Henderson Endowed Professor
- Randall G. Holcombe, Ph.D. – The DeVoe L. Moore Professor of Economics
- John Hamman, Ph.D. – The Bernard Sliger Professor of Economics
