COSSPP’s Student Leadership Council Hosts 12th Annual Agree to Disagree

FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s Student Leadership Council (COSSPP SLC), in collaboration with the Civic Engagement Board, hosted the 12th Annual Agree to Disagree event on Monday, March 2.

The SLC’s Agree to Disagree event has been a COSSPP staple for over a decade, founded on the idea that people with differing political perspectives can still build genuine connections. With over 170 attendees, the event brought together the college’s community of students from various majors and backgrounds to discuss relevant political topics, including the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

Attendees heard an inspirational keynote from the Mayor of Tallahassee, John Dailey (B.S. Political Science ’96 & M.S. of Public Administration ’99). Mayor Dailey is a lifelong public servant and FSU alumnus with a continued goal of making communities better through public service. He provided students with valuable insights and advice on civil discourse and leadership.

This semester’s event also included remarks from COSSPP Associate Dean Christopher Reenock, Ph.D., Civic Engagement Board Director Ryan Gans, a political science student, and SLC Chair Jordan Brown, a Master’s in Applied American Politics and Policy student.

“It’s exciting to see so many people passionate about engaging in civil discourse given the current political climate,” Brown said. “I hope to see Agree to Disagree continue to grow and make a positive impact in the Florida State community.”

COSSPP’s Student Leadership Council is a student-led organization focused on developing leadership skills, giving back, and supporting peers. Members work closely with Dean Tim Chapin and college leadership to represent students’ voices in shaping the college’s priorities and initiatives.
