The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) provides personal and professional development opportunities to our students and serves as a liaison between the student body and College leadership, advocating for the needs of students and advancing strategic initiatives led by the College.

Global Peace Exchange
Global Peace Exchange (GPE) is a non-profit and student-run international development organization founded in 2006 at Florida State University. GPE is open to students of all majors, degree levels, and career interests.
GPE connect students with global issues through (1) international non-governmental organization partnerships, (2) support of both local and international causes, (3) critical dialogue about international development, (4) and professional opportunities.
GPE’s partnerships have focused on education, business, the environment, health and women and youth empowerment. Since its inception, more than 100 volunteers have traveled to and partnered with organizations based in Rwanda, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Ghana, Uganda, Moldova, Guatemala, Haiti and Peru.

World Affairs Program
The World Affairs Program is an academic debate team that provides training in negotiation and debate strategies, as well as the opportunity to develop leadership and problem-solving skills by engaging with experts on topical global affairs and in debate competitions nationwide.

Women’s Leadership Network
The Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) works to develop the next generation of leaders, and to cultivate a supportive community of women who are interested in staying connected to the College and sharing their expertise with the next generation of COSSPP Noles. The WLN has both undergraduate and graduate groups that provide programming designed to enhance professional networks, hone executive skills, and connect recent and established COSSPP alumnae with one another.
Building on local and national networks, WLN organizes events, including the Distinguished Alumnae Speaker Series in the Spring of each year. This signature event brings in one of COSSPP’s successful alumnae to share her career trajectory and professional insights. The WLN also hosts frequent events featuring COSSPP alumnae on campus and in the Tallahassee Community.

Discipline-Specific RSOs
Units within the college have organizations established to allow students studying within specific disciplines and programs to network and share their knowledge and experiences and to connect them with alumni, guest speakers, conferences and research opportunities that expand on their academic and professional goals.
These groups are not generally open to all students but may sponsor events that anyone can attend. Students are encouraged to check with their programs and advisers for more information about how to get involved in these groups.
International Association of Emergency Managers
The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Student Chapter at FSU provides members with educational and networking opportunities within the field of emergency management.
IAEM hosts innovators and practitioners from the field such as guest speakers, future tour outings, and volunteer opportunities for students.

Public Health Organization (undergraduates)
The Public Health Organization is a newly formed undergraduate Recognized Student Organization (RSO) created with the vision of allowing public health students to find a community of like-minded individuals to connect for academic, professional and social endeavors. The organization serves as a hub for public health majors to network, create study groups and share course recommendations.

Master of Public Health Student Association at FSU (master’s students)
The Master of Public Health Student Association (MPHSA) provides opportunities and the tools necessary for public health graduate students to be successful through the awareness of internships, education of various public-health related topics and community service projects on and off campus.
The MPHSA mission is to increase awareness of public health-related concerns and policies as well as facilitate and enhance the health status of Florida State University students, faculty, and its surrounding community.

Economics Club at FSU
The Economics Club at FSU promotes economic education in the FSU community. The organization hosts talks by economics experts both from FSU and from other institutions who share their expertise, work experience, and advice on career development and personal finance.
Club meetings provide students with information on research opportunities, current event discussions, fun economics games and events, outreach to feeder schools, and networking.

Public Administration Graduate Association
The Public Administration Graduate Association (PAGA) exists to enhance the educational experiences of M.P.A. and Ph.D. students of the Askew School by fostering communication among professionals, alumni, practitioners, faculty, and students while providing services that assist student development both educationally and personally.

National Association for Business Economics
The FSU Chapter of the National Association for Business Economics prepares all traditional and applied economics majors and minors for the professional world they will meet after graduation. NABE hosts bi-weekly meetings featuring guest speakers with backgrounds in economics.
Members of the chapter have the opportunity to form a network of peers, develop professional skills and typically attend two NABE conferences each year.

Graduate Researchers of Geography
The Graduate Researchers of Geography (GRG) is a creative and supportive community for graduate students in the Department of Geography. The purpose of the organization is to unite graduate students while providing a forum for discussions on geographical, educational, pedagogical, or professional topics.

Pi Sigma Alpha
The Department of Political Science houses FSU’s Gamma Alpha chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1920 at the University of Texas to encourage and recognize superior achievement in the study of government and politics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Pi Sigma Alpha is the only recognized political science college honor society and one of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies. Students become eligible for membership by attaining high standards of scholarship not only in the discipline of political science but in their overall academic work as well.
During the spring semester, the department invites qualifying students to join and holds an initiation ceremony during an annual awards reception.
Political Science Graduate Student Organization (PSGSA)
The Political Science Graduate Student Association serves as the main forum for graduate students to voice their opinions about department matters and a resource for helping graduate students to successfully complete their academic degrees. PSGSA is also the central coordinator of social and community service events for the graduate department. The group organizes a couple of of major initiatives within the department, including a mentorship program for incoming first-year students and an annual methods workshop.

Alpha Kappa Delta Honors Society
The Department of Sociology sponsors the Alpha of Florida chapter of the AKD Honors Society for undergraduate and graduate students. The organization offers opportunities for participating in leadership positions and allows sociology majors to engage with a network of students who share their professional interests.

Pi Gamma Mu
Pi Gamma Mu membership is welcoming to disciplines of history, political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, psychology, international relations, criminal justice, social work, social philosophy, history of education, and cultural/human geography. Membership is also extended to interdisciplinary social science areas that build on the core social science disciplines, such as business and society, education, minority studies, public administration, international studies, public finance, leadership studies, consumer behavior, public policy and organizational behavior. In order to become a member of the Florida Zeta Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu all qualified inductees shall hold a major grade point average of 3.0 or above, must be at the junior, senior, graduate, or faculty level, be in good standing with the university, and rank in the top 35% of their degree program. Synoptikos, aka Urban and Regional Planning Student Association
This organization for planning students promotes professional and intellectual stimulation and the exploration of ideas outside formal classroom contents. It also sponsors social activities, assists new planning students and visiting educators and facilitates the exchange of information between the faculty, staff and students of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

The Masters in Applied American Politics & Policy Association (MAAPPA)
The Masters in Applied American Politics & Policy Association (MAAPPA) is a student-run organization dedicated to enhancing the MAAPP student experience and building community between current students and the alumni network. MAAPPA recognizes that students in this program are uniquely positioned to apply their classroom knowledge to the political community in Tallahassee and to connect with alumni who live and work in the capital city too. Through outreach and events including MAAPPy Hours, MAAPP at the Cap, and Graduation & Recognition Ceremonies, MAAPPA works with program faculty and staff to promote social and professional environments in which members of the MAAPP community can come together to enjoy good company, to celebrate successes, and to develop lasting relationships.

Black Law Student Association (BLSA)
The Black Law Student Association, College Student Division is an organization whose focus is to ensure that all students interested in law are being adequately informed, fostered, and empowered with the necessary tools to be successful in Law School. The purpose of the organization shall be to utilize the collective resources of its members and chapters to:
- Articulate and promote the professional needs and goals of pre-law students (including but not limited to minorities)
- Foster and encourage professional competence.
- Focus on the relationship of the pre-law student, law student, and Attorney to the American legal structure.
- Instill in the pre-law student, law student, and Attorney a greater awareness and commitment to the needs of minority communities.
- Encourage minority pre-law and law students to pursue careers in the judiciary.
- Do all things necessary and appropriate to accomplish these purposes.

Florida State University Women in Pre-Law Society
The purpose of this organization is to serve as a stepping stone for women on their way to the legal field. This organization shall articulate the needs of the female pre-law student on the Florida State University campus and see to it that every possibility of fulfilling that need is examined. The organization shall:
- Act as a medium for pre-law women of the Florida State University to openly express their opinions.
- Conjugate effective relationships between female pre-law students, law students, and established legal professionals.
- Indoctrinate professional development from the standpoint of attire to the necessities of networking.
- Host events and forums related to the advancement of members and the community that are legal under University, local, state, and federal laws.
- Expose female pre-law students to the challenges faced by female legal professionals in an attempt to prepare them for their future legal careers.

Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity International
The purpose of this chapter shall be to provide an effective, cohesive forum, similar to that of a respectable law school student body; to provide for the professional advancements of its members; to promote the principles of liberty and equal justice under the law for all citizens; to stimulate excellence in scholarship; to provide a forum for the interchange between members of this chapter and members of the practicing bar, the bench, and law professors; to develop lasting professional friendships among its members; and to promote the ideals, principles, and purposes of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International as defined in Article II of the Constitution of the Fraternity and the Laws of the United States of America.
Phi Alpha Delta is a co-ed social service organization that strives to provide an opportunity for pre-law students to learn and improve the profession of law in admission to law school and the bar. We also engage in philanthropic/community service activities and other networking events to give our members a step forward in their future legal careers. Since 2008, the competitors at Florida State Mock Trial have worked together to do one thing: succeed. That goal has been met countless times by countless students who have joined, grown, and graduated from the program. Whether it be in the courtroom, the classroom, or abroad, the Seminoles at Florida State Mock Trial have always strived to be the very best advocates they can be for themselves and others.
The Society of Black Female Future Attorneys
The Society of Black Female Future Attorneys is a pre-law society designed to support minority female students at Florida State University pursuing careers in the legal field. The purpose of this organization is to empower, encourage, and assist Black and minority students across Florida State’s campus to pursue their law careers in the face of adversity. Throughout the semester, we host various events, including bonding, professional development, community service, and panel discussions. We provide many opportunities for members to network with other students, professionals, or employers in their chosen fields. Additionally, we host meetings every month that allow members to stay up to date with important information or upcoming events.
