Florida State University is now home to the first Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program in the state of Florida. In 1920, Oxford University started the first PPE program and this interdisciplinary field is now a growing movement with programs at elite and peer universities around the world.
The FSU PPE program has its roots in the DeVoe L. Moore Center. In the 2022-23 academic year, the DMC hosted the first PPE reading groups. Students would meet on a volunteer basis (no credit) six times a semester to discuss a set of readings. Student enthusiasm for PPE in reading groups over the next two years is what motivated the creation of a formal academic program.
The new 15-credit hour PPE minor at FSU is an excellent opportunity for students who want to ask fundamental questions about human cooperation, coordination, the distribution of burdens and benefits in society, and human flourishing. The slogan for the 2024-25 academic year is the following: “Charting a course to a better world.”
