Description

This specialization prepares planners to understand and prepare for the role and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), urban digital literacy, and visual/graphic communication skills to support working responsibly with emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and urban data technologies for professional planning practice. Students are introduced to key developments in AI and related urban analytical and large urban/regional datasets, AI-related ethical and governance issues (privacy, bias, transparency), how AI is and will be used for professional planning practice, as well as AI-assisted visual communication for plans, reports, and public engagement. The specialization sequence emphasizes ethics, equity, collaboration with technical teams, and effective stakeholder communication with the use of emerging digital intelligence tools for the 21-st century planning practice. The sequence is aligned with Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) goals 4.B.2.b (“Skills and Tools for Planning Practice”) and American Planning Association (APA)/Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) guidance on responsible use of AI for planners.
