Four undergraduate students in Florida State University’s Department of Economics — Ibraheem Saqib Ellahi, Gavin Locke, Jack Frable and Mariana Hernandez — received Fall 2025 scholarships in recognition of outstanding achievement in core and upper-division economics coursework.
The Department of Economics has several merit-based scholarship opportunities for undergraduates. The Reva Daniels Metzinger Scholarship is awarded to two people per semester. The William Peterson Endowed Scholarship and The Bruce W. McNeilage Endowed Scholarship award one person per semester.
Ibraheem Saqib Ellahi was awarded the Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed Scholarship for Economics majors, which recognizes undergraduate students who achieved academic excellence in their economics courses. Ibraheem is currently a senior at FSU, double majoring in Economics and Applied & Computational Mathematics, with an expected graduation this spring. In addition to his academic involvement in his economics major, he works alongside multiple economics professors, contributing important research while also serving as a peer mentor for the Bryan Hall Exploration & Discovery Living Learning Community.
Gavin Locke was awarded the Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed Scholarships for economics majors, which recognizes undergraduate students who achieved academic excellence in their Economics courses.
Jack Frable was awarded The Bruce W. McNeilage Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors. This scholarship is awarded to one undergraduate student every semester who has demonstrated excellence through a challenging curriculum in economics and grew up in a single-parent household.
Mariana Hernandez was awarded The William Peterson Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who graduated from high school with honors and have achieved academic excellence in upper-division courses at FSU.
Mariana, an FSU senior, plans to pursue a Ph.D. in economics after graduation, with the goal of working in academia. Her commitment to economics was recognized by one of her professors and the department chair, Dr. John Hamman, who encouraged her to apply for the William Peterson Endowed Scholarship.
“His mentorship meant a lot to me,” Hernandez said. “It affirmed my commitment to the discipline and my potential for continued success in economics. After learning more about the scholarship, I was drawn to its emphasis on academic excellence and dedication to the field, which are values that strongly align with my own experiences and goals as an economics major.”
