Four undergraduate students in Florida State University’s Department of Economics received Spring 2026 scholarships in recognition of outstanding achievement in core and upper-division economics coursework.
This semester’s honorees are Hayden Thomas, Alexis Staveski, Mikayla Robinson, and Finn R.
The Department of Economics has several merit-based scholarship opportunities for undergraduates. The Reva Daniels Metzinger Scholarship is awarded to two students per semester. The William Peterson Endowed Scholarship and the Bruce W. McNeilage Endowed Scholarship each award one student per semester.
Hayden Thomas was awarded the Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed Scholarship for economics majors, which recognizes undergraduate students who achieved academic excellence in their economics courses.
“This award reflects not only the analytical foundation I have developed as an economics major, but also the broader value of economic education, especially at FSU,” Thomas said. “I plan to use the scholarship to support my pre-graduate school endeavors and, ultimately, graduate study as I prepare for a career at the intersection of economics, law, and public policy.”
Alexis Staveski was also awarded the Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed Scholarship for economics majors.
“Winning the Reva Daniels Metzinger Award means so much to me, as a culmination of my work at Florida State University and in the Economics Department,” Staveski said. “The financial support will be invaluable for me as I prepare to undertake graduate study at Cornell University for my master’s of systems engineering. I have always felt so supported by this department and the broader FSU community, and this award only reaffirms that!”
Mikayla Robinson was awarded the Bruce W. McNeilage Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors. This scholarship is awarded to one undergraduate student every semester who has demonstrated excellence through a challenging curriculum in economics and grew up in a single-parent household.
“I am grateful to have been selected for an award that reflects the importance of dedication, service, and ongoing growth in higher education,” Robinson said. “As I pursue a career as an attorney-advisor, this scholarship supports my growth and strengthens my commitment to building more equitable communities through economics and public policy.”
Finn R. was awarded the William Peterson Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who graduated from high school with honors and have achieved academic excellence in upper-division courses at FSU.
“This award means more to me than I can fully put into words, as it has provided relief during a period of significant financial and academic pressure,” Finn R. said. “It has not only eased financial burdens but also given me the stability and confidence to fully focus on my studies and long-term academic goals.”
