Lower Level Courses

The Department of Economics offers three lower level economics courses:

ECO 2000, Introduction to Economics Thinking, is a one-semester course for students who intend to take only one course in economics and seek a brief survey of both macroeconomic and microeconomic principles. This course does not satisfy the prerequisite requirements for economics or business majors or minors.

ECO 2013, Principles of Macroeconomics, focuses on money and banking, inflation, unemployment, the measurement and determination of national income, and government fiscal and monetary policy. This course is a companion to ECO 2023, Principles of Microeconomics.

ECO 2023, Principles of Microeconomics, focuses on basic economic principles, demand and supply, perfect competition and monopoly, and resource markets. This course is a companion to ECO 2013, Principles of Macroeconomics.

Prerequisites

Except as noted, ECO 2013 and/or ECO 2023 are prerequisites for upper division economics courses. Both ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 are prerequisites for admission to either a major or a minor in economics or business. One or both courses are required by some other majors in the University. Students may take ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 in either order and may take both courses in the same semester.

Liberal Studies Honors

The Department offers at least one section each of ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 in the fall and spring semesters for Honors Program students. These sections are taught by regular faculty and are limited to 25 students each.
