Practical Training and Career Development

Students work closely with faculty, alumni, and civic leaders to apply economic theory to real-world data and consulting projects. The program emphasizes in-demand software and data analysis skills. Twice a year, Career Day brings professionals—often alumni—to campus for interviews and networking, helping students secure internships, prepare for the job market, and connect with potential employers.

“Attending the NABE conference was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. I spent three days filled with engaging panel discussions and lectures from esteemed economists, finding myself in the company of professionals I never imagined I would meet in person. I was thrilled to take a group picture with [Jerome Powell] and even shake his hand!” –Class of 2025

Capstone Experience

The program culminates in an Applied Master’s Project, conducted during the summer. This capstone project provides experiential learning in economic research, from data analysis to presenting findings. Students refine their skills in structured meetings, formal presentations, and technical writing. A symposium in July is attended by professionals who evaluate the project presentations.

Networking Opportunities

We pride ourselves on fostering strong connections between students, alumni across the United States, and leaders in state and local government, offering valuable networking opportunities throughout the program.
