The minor in Economics requires completion of 15 credit hours of coursework in economics with a GPA of 2.00. Students must complete:
- ECO 2013, Principles of Macroeconomics, and ECO 2023, Principles of Microeconomics, both with a grade of C or better (C- is not acceptable)
- 9 semester hours in economics elective courses at the 3000/4000 level with prefixes ECO, ECP, or ECS including at least one of the following core courses:
- ECO3101: Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
- ECO3203: Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory
- ECO3431: Analysis of Economic Data
- ECO4421: Introduction to Econometrics (Statistics and ECO3431 are prerequisites)
Only 6 hours of transfer credit may apply.
Students do not declare a minor in the same sense that they declare a major. After a student has satisfied the requirements for the minor indicated here, the student can contact Julie Phillips (julie.phillips@fsu.edu) in 254 Bellamy. She will verify that Department requirements have been satisfied and provide the student with a certificate of completion. However, students who are required by their major program to have a minor must also satisfy the requirements for a minor imposed by that program. For example, other programs might not permit students to count ECO 2013 and ECO 2023 toward both the economics minor requirements and their liberal studies requirements. Students who intend to use their economics minor to satisfy the minor requirement for their major program should consult with their major advisor and College Academic Dean’s office to ensure they will meet all degree requirements.
Note: For the purpose of completing Economics minor requirements, ECO 3104 and ECO 3223 may be considered core courses for students in catalog years preceding Fall 2014. ECO 3101, ECO 3203, and ECO 3431 were numbered ECO 4101, ECO 4203, and ECO 4431 prior to Fall 2014.
Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Minor
In addition to the Economics minor, a minor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) also has its home in the Department of Economics. The PPE minor takes these historically intertwined fields that have grown apart from each other and recombines them in an interdisciplinary field of study. Students will learn from faculty across all three programs. This 15-credit hour minor will be of interest to students who want to ask whether a particular course of action is economically or politically feasible, whether it is morally desirable, and how we might evaluate tradeoffs among competing goods. For more information, please see the PPE website at cosspp.fsu.edu/ppe.
