The Economics Department offers undergraduate specialized studies programs in Advanced Economic Analysis, Applied Economics, and Markets and Institutions. The Economics Department also participates in the undergraduate specialized studies program in Political Economy offered by the DeVoe L. Moore Center. Students may not apply more than six hours of credit toward another specialized study, minor, or certificate program. In other words, no more than 6 hours used for one specialized studies program can also be used for another specialized studies program, minor, or certificate program. Specialized studies programs are not intended as a diploma or degree program and will not be noted on FSU transcripts.
Specialized Studies in Advanced Economic Analysis
This program is designed for undergraduates interested in pursuing economics at the doctoral level. We aim to introduce students to the types of reasoning, analysis, and research methodology that they can expect to face in doctoral studies. Students completing the program will gain an increased level of sophistication in mathematical reasoning, along with the ability to construct, and not simply interpret, theoretical models.
Admission to the Advanced Economic Analysis specialized studies program is attained by submitting an application to the Undergraduate Director. Students must be in good standing at FSU and successfully complete ECO2013 and ECO2023 prior to taking any 3000/4000 level economics courses. After admission to the specialized studies program, students must complete 15 hours overall, maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or better in courses used toward the program, and earn a C- or better in each course. Admission to this specialized studies program does not require, nor does it imply, admission to the Economics major.
