Florida State University’s Department of Political Science and Institute of Politics hosted the inaugural Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Conference from March 2 through March 4, 2023.
As the official conference of the Election, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Section of the American Political Science Association, it attracted a wide array of political scientist faculty and doctoral students from across the country and abroad.
“For a long time, FSU’s Political Science Department has taken a leadership role in the study of elections, public opinion, and voting behavior,” said Political Science Department Chair Brad Gomez, Ph.D. “It is an honor to host this inaugural event and to bring leading scholars in the field to FSU’s campus.”
The conference included presentations about cutting-edge research in the field of political behavior. Attendees received feedback on their scholarship and collaborated with colleagues.
Attendees presented their research in either poster sessions or as part of themed panels focusing on specific research topics. Both formats provided opportunities for presenters and panelists to give an overview of their research and for other participants to engage with their work. Importantly, vibrant discussions provided direction for future research inquiries.
“We’re really happy to have the chance to put together such a successful conference,” said the Director of the Institute of Politics Hans Hassell, Ph.D. “We hope that this will be the first in a long series of conferences that will facilitate the growth of research in this area.”
The second Elections Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Conference is slated to be held in Spring 2024. FSU’s faculty look forward to hosting the conference again next year to facilitate more research about political behavior and public opinion.
