Computer Facilities
The College of Social Sciences GIS Laboratory currently includes workstations, file and print servers, color laserjet printers, a large-format plotter, dedicated and mobile LCD projectors, and an ESRI Master Site License with unlimited access to nearly all ESRI products. Other site licenses are available for ERDAS and Idrisi software products. The COSS GIS Lab is divided into two facilities. One is a dedicated teaching and training facility. The other is a research lab with 24-7 card swipe access for any faculty or research assistant with a need for GIS capabilities. The lab also owns high end GPS receivers, and numerous hand-held computational and locational devices for use in training exercises and research. Through our GIS facilities and expertise, the Department of Geography has instructional and research ties with formal programs in Computational Sciences, Urban and Regional Planning, Economics (Devoe L. Moore Center), Geology, Meteorology, Ecology, Criminology, and Demography (Center for the Study of Population) also afford opportunities for multi-investigator, interdisciplinary research.
Institute for Science and Public Affairs (ISPA)
The Geography Department enjoys a unique, productive relationship with FSU’s Institute for Science and Public Affairs (ISPA), which employs several geographers and is located in the University Center. ISPA contains numerous centers engaged in the analysis of policy issues, including the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC). FREAC has close ties to the department, including teaching staff and a computer cartography and GIS laboratory. Graduate students frequently find employment and gain research experience working on funded projects at ISPA while pursuing their degree in the Geography Department.

Florida State University Libraries
The FSU Libraries rank among the nation’s top research libraries. The FSU Library system now has a growing collection of electronic database subscriptions, full-text electronic books and electronic journals. The two major libraries on campus are the Robert Manning Strozier Library and the Paul A.M. Dirac Science Library
Atlanta Research Data Center
FSU is a member of the Atlanta Research Data Center consortium. This membership gives university faculty and students access to confidential demographic, business and health microdata from a variety of U.S. government sources free of charge. The secure facility located at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is managed by the Census Bureau to provide access to restricted-use microdata for statistical purposes.
