Preparing for the Job Market

A step-by-step guide: 

  • Meet with staff at the Career Center at the start of, and throughout, your junior year. 
  • Discuss the pros and cons of immediate employment, military service, a gap year, grad school, or a service year with the Career Center staff.  
  • If pursuing grad school, identify the application cycle for graduate schools. 
  • If pursuing employment, research hiring timelines for the organizations or industries you are interested in. 
  • Create a profile on LinkedIn and network with other FSU IA alumni via LinkedIn. 
  • Follow the Career Center for job postings and events. 
  • Login to NoleNetwork and use keywords specific to international affairs (e.g., global, trade, foreign, language, multicultural, security, defense, refugee, abroad, intercultural, non-violent, worldwide, international, etc.). 
  • Expand the job search through additional search engine links.
