Biography
Amit Anshumali is trained as a Development Sociologist and obtained his PhD from Cornell. He has a dual Master’s in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Sciences from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining FSU, Amit taught in the MA Program in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago, and the Academic Writing Program at Princeton. He is interested in interdisciplinary research with a focus on sociology of work, labor and environment.
Amit is the faculty representative for Social Sciences in the Integrated Studies Program. He enjoys collaborating with his colleagues from STEM and Humanities. Through his interactions with them, Amit has been inspired by the systematic approach of STEM disciplines and the aesthetic vision of Humanities. It is his endeavor to create a curriculum that integrates the systematic, the aesthetic, and the critical aspects of learning. In terms of scholarship, Amit emphasizes the approach of developing a scientific temper, perspective taking and critical thinking to his mentees. As a mentor, he deeply cares about the professional development of his students and values integrity and respect as core principles of education.
