Masters of Applied American Politics & Policy (MAAPP) program instructor and two-time Florida State University alumnus Jay Revell spoke to Gary Yordon with WCTV’s ‘The Usual Suspects,’ about a range of Florida political issues and his experiences with the program as both a student and instructor.
MAAPP is a top national master’s program providing practical career training in an intellectually challenging environment for those passionate about the political process and is part of the FSU Political Science Department, which consistently ranks as one of the top-20 programs in the US.
On ‘The Usual Suspects,’ Revell described the program as creating the next generation of political practitioners, noting that many students in the program “are not just aspirational about politics, they’re already in the process.”
Established in 2001, MAAPP has over 500 graduates who hold prominent positions in Florida and national politics.
Revell also praised the MAAPP program’s faculty saying, “they’re working in some of the most impactful organizations in our state, then they come and give their time to help the next generation learn how to do it better.” Regarding MAAPP Director, Brad Kile, Ph.D., Revell says, “He does a phenomenal job curating classes that help students who are hungry to learn, learn how to do politics better.”
Revell is currently teaching a MAAPPP course titled Creating Compelling Campaigns, which he describes as “a marketing and advertising class disguised as a politics class”.
Applications to the MAAPP program for early admissions decisions for this fall are due by April 15; applications for the regular fall admission cycle are due by July 1. Students interested in applying for Spring should plan to submit their applications by November 1.
Undergraduates at FSU who are interested in MAAPP may qualify for the Combined Pathways program through which up to 12 credit hours of approved graduate-level (MAAPP) coursework can count toward requirements for both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
