Program Overview

The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) minor at Florida State University is a 15-credit hour program open to students of all majors. It includes five courses:

  • Introduction to Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (IDS 2118) (3 credits)
  • One approved course in Philosophy (3 credits)
  • One approved course in Political Science (3 credits)
  • One approved course in Economics (3 credits)
  • PPE Capstone course (IDS 4119) (3 credits)

You can find more details—including the list of approved elective courses—through the courses tab.

But PPE is more than a checklist of classes. It’s an interdisciplinary intellectual community, bringing together curious and engaged students and faculty who want to understand the world through the combined lenses of economics, philosophy, and political science. The program explores foundational questions about choice, justice, governance, cooperation, and policy—drawing on the strengths of each discipline to build a more comprehensive and principled understanding of the issues that matter.

Even students who don’t pursue the minor are welcome to get involved. Whether by taking the Introduction to PPE course, attending speaker events, joining a book club, or participating in discussions, there are many ways to engage with the PPE community.
