Karen Cyphers

Biography

Karen Cyphers, Ph.D., earned her doctorate in Political Science & Government from FSU in 2012. Dr. Cyphers currently teaches Introduction to American Government, a course designed to implement Florida’s civic literacy requirements and inspire interest and understanding in the institutions of self-governance. She previously taught Applied Policy Analysis in the Masters in Applied American Politics and Policy (MAAPP) program. Since 2002, Cyphers has worked in policy, political, and lobbying roles in Florida, including as staff in the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate, as senior policy staff in the Executive Office of the Governor and for two gubernatorial campaigns, as director of health care policy for the Florida Medical Association, and as partner and director of research for Sachs Media. Her research focuses on public opinion and civic engagement. She received her Bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida in 2001.
