Pi Sigma Alpha
The Political Science Department houses Florida State University’s Gamma Alpha chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1920 at the University of Texas to encourage and recognize superior achievement in the study of government and politics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. With more than 700 chapters, and with more than 8,000 students joining its ranks each year, Pi Sigma Alpha is the only recognized political science college honor society and one of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies. Students become eligible for membership by attaining high standards of scholarship not only in the discipline of political science but in their overall academic work as well, in accordance with the criteria set forth in the national constitution of Pi Sigma Alpha, the by-laws of the Gamma Alpha chapter, and the strict requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. During the spring semester, the Department invites qualifying students to join and holds an initiation ceremony during an annual awards reception.
Political Science Graduate Student Organization (PSGSA)
The Political Science Graduate Student Association is the official student organization of the Political Science graduate program at the Florida State University. The Political Science Graduate Student Association serves as 1) the main forum for graduate students to voice their opinions about department matters and, 2) a resource for helping graduate students to successfully complete their academic degrees and, 3) the central coordinator of social and community service events for the graduate department. We have organized a couple major initiatives within the department, including a mentorship program for incoming First Year students and an annual methods workshop.
