Epidemiology in London Program

LN20-6-25 – London Diseases: Past, Present & Future Summer of 2025
PHC 4030  / PHC 5001      Fundamentals of Epidemiology

Students on this program will explore concepts of public health and epidemiology through the lenses of the past, present, and future diseases in the context of a global city. Diseases of the past shaped London and impacted human history – from typhoid and plague to diabetes and cancer. Visits to historic sites, such as the location of the 1854 Broad Street cholera outbreak, will enhance understanding of epidemiology and its history. Examination of London’s environmental factors through experiences like a tour of the Thames River will provide insight into the spread of viruses and bacteria. Discussion of disease prevention, health promotion, and community protection will enable students to identify social, cultural, and behavioral factors that affect public health today and into the future.
