Register for the Master of Public Health Student Association’s second annual Public Health Professions Conference on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the FSU Student Union Grand Ballrooms (second floor).
Attendees will enjoy seminar sessions featuring multiple speakers from various fields in the industry and networking opportunities throughout the event.
So far, two speakers have been announced for the seminars: Carina Blackmore, DVM, Ph.D., Dipl ACVPM, CPM, and Kristine Zonka, Ph.D, DNP, APRN, FNP-C.
Dr. Blackmore received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 1989 and her Ph.D. in Arbovirus Epidemiology from the University of Notre Dame in 1996. After two years as an Adjunct Professor at Valdosta State University, she joined the Florida Department of Health in 1998. Since April 2017, she has served as the Director of the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection and the State’s Epidemiologist. During her time with the Florida Department of Health, she has been at the forefront of the responses to endemic and emerging diseases in recent years such as Ebola, Zika, and COVID-19.
Dr. Zonka graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University and her Doctor of Nursing Practice. She joined the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County as the Health Officer in April of 2023 and is also a Registered Nurse and a Certified Family Practitioner. In her first year with the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County, she has secured additional funding through various county and local partnerships and implemented successful workforce recruitment and retention strategies. She also served as a Brevard County Commissioner for over six years.
