
Seven College of Social Science and Public Policy (COSSPP) faculty – Amid Ardakani, Ph.D. Will Butler, Ph.D., Karen Cyphers, Ph.D., Maria Cristina Ramos, Ph.D., Annette Schwabe, Ph.D., Ladanya Ramirez Surmeier, Ph.D., and Tracy Woodard, Ph.D.– received University Teaching Awards for the 2024-2025 school year.
The University Teaching Awards program recognizes faculty for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Faculty are nominated by students, alumni, faculty, administrators, community members, or by self-nomination.
The twenty-six faculty members will receive awards of $2,000 each and will be honored on Tuesday, April 22, at the Faculty Awards Ceremony.
Award areas include “Outstanding Teaching in the Major,” “Inclusive Teaching and Mentoring,” “Community Engaged Teaching,” and “Foundational Course Excellence.”
The Outstanding Teaching in the Major Award honors faculty who teach outstanding courses where students develop disciplinary expertise in their major.
The Inclusive Teaching and Mentoring Award honors faculty who teach courses in which the learning environment is explicitly designed to help all students flourish. These faculty members attend to both course design and classroom dynamics, leveraging students’ strengths.
The Community Engaged Teaching Award honors faculty who teach exemplary courses where students engage with the broader community through service learning, community writing, public scholarship, or similar.
The Foundational Course Excellence Award honors faculty who effectively and consistently provide students with the tools they need to succeed in downstream courses and in their careers.
