Florida State University’s Department of Economics Awarded six scholarships for the Fall 2024 semester to outstanding Economics students.
Four students were awarded Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed Scholarships for Economics Majors, which are awarded to undergraduate students who achieved academic excellence in their Economics courses. These students are Becky Gilland, Jesse Valdes, Liam Woolard, and Juan Guerrero.
“Being selected as a winner of this scholarship fills me with pride because I know the professor who believed in me and urged me to apply did so for a reason,” said Liam Woolard (B.S. Economics, International Affairs, and Political Science ‘24). “It feels good to prove them right.”
“Receiving the Reva Daniels Metzinger Endowed scholarship is not just a recognition of my academic achievements; it’s a pivotal step in my professional development journey. The award signifies more than just financial support, it serves me as a vote of confidence in achieving my career aspirations,” said Juan Guerrero (B.S. Economics and Finance ‘25). “I intend to use the award to explore career opportunities that combine my passion for economics and finance.”
Victoria Huguet was awarded The Bill Peterson Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who graduated from high school with honors and have achieved academic excellence in upper-division courses at FSU.
“I’m immensely grateful for the Bill Peterson Endowed Scholarship for Distinguished Economics Majors,” said Huguet (B.S. Economics ‘25). “It’s not just financial support, but a validation of my dedication to understanding the intricate mechanisms that drive our world’s economy.”
Garret Coleman was awarded The Sharp Family Scholarship for Economics Majors, which is given to undergraduate students who have achieved academic excellence in upper-division classes and demonstrate financial need.
“I am honored to have been awarded the Sharp Family Scholarship for Economic Majors,” said Coleman (B.S. Economics and Sociology ‘24). “This scholarship has helped reinforce my academic pursuits with even greater motivation and ambition, and I am grateful to have my academic and economic achievements at Florida State University recognized.”
Coleman will be entering the M.S. in Applied Economics Cohort in Fall 2024.
