Internships are a great way for Sociology major students to gain real world applied experience. Student interns can gain valuable work experience, develop professional skills, cultivate valuable contacts, and investigate possible career options. Students will receive academic credit for internship placement in approved agencies and organizations.
The Sociology Department encourages students to find internships that provide experiences that will allow students to use the numerous skills that they have developed as sociology majors. Students may find internships that are centered in government or state work, public and community health, nonprofit work, law and criminal justice, or quantitative/qualitative data analysis.
Students will earn three (3) credit hours for the completion of at least 75 total internship hours. This translates into at least 5 hours per week (5 hours * 15 semester weeks = 75 hours).
Students will earn six (6) credit hours for the completion of at least 150 total internship hours. This translates into at least 10 hours per week (10 hours * 15 semester hours = 150 hours).
The internship placement should be for the full academic term (15 weeks) unless there are extenuating circumstances.
