Florida State University’s Gus A. Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education hosted a celebration of its partnership with Robinhood Money Drills on Tuesday, February 27. The event was attended by FSU leaders, Stavros Center volunteers and employees, students, and executives from Robinhood.
Robinhood Money Drills seeks to provide economic education and support for college students, particularly student athletes, as they often face financial distress after retirement. The Stavros Center and Money Drills seek to help them early in their careers, so they are equipped for the future.
“At Robinhood, one of our top priorities is to provide the next generation with access to financial education. Through the Robinhood Money Drills program, we are proud to give college students and student athletes a strong foundation to responsibly manage their finances for the future,” said Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Vice President of International Government and External Affairs, Robinhood Markets, Inc. “We’re excited to collaborate with Florida State University to continue to expand the initiative to students across the country.”
The partnership will help The Stavros Center achieve its economic education goals. Thanks to Robinhood’s financial support, the Center can welcome high-profile guest speakers and expand programming.
“The Stavros Center at Florida State University and Robinhood Money Drills share common goals of educating and empowering students, especially student-athletes, to better manage their financial futures,” said Joe Calhoun, Ph.D., Director of The Stavros Center. “We are proud to create a new partnership to expand opportunities for FSU students to acquire skills to enrich their lives and build a strong foundation for financial success. This event will celebrate our new relationship and commitment to financial education.”
The launch event was held at Doak Cambell Stadium’s Champions Club. Attendees heard from the Dean of FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, Tim Chapin, Ph.D.; FSU’s Provost and Executive Vice President, Jim Clark, Ph.D.; as well as Director of the Stavros Center Dr. Joe Calhoun; and Robinhood Deputy General Counsel Lucas Moskowitz. They also heard video messages from Robinhood CEO and Co-Founder Vlad Tenev, and FSU alum and Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida Jimmy Patronis (B.A. ‘96 Political Science).
“I am confident this partnership comes at a crucial time to our student athletes,” Provost Jim Clark said. “Thank you to Robinhood for believing in Florida State University and the Stavros Center.”
