Ashley Zeitz – third-year student majoring in International Affairs – was selected for the U.S. Department of State’s Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) program.
This year-long internship program allows college students to work on projects that meet the needs of federal agencies. Zeitz was assigned to the Brussels Media Hub, a new office under the Bureau of Global Public Affairs that connects policymakers from the United States with European media.
“My internship has allowed me to pursue my passions for public relations and international affairs simultaneously, which I am extremely grateful for,” Zeitz said. “I have received excellent mentorship and opportunities, and I am thrilled to have my foot in the door for my dream occupation so early in my career.”
Zeitz was involved as the Professional Development Chair for Phi Alpha Delta and is currently the Service Chair on the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s Student Leadership Council. She actively attends seminars and panels at FSU’s Center for Global Engagement and is a member of the Nineteen Ten Honorary organization, an affiliate of FSU’s Women Student Union that promotes recognition and outreach on women’s issues.
Zeitz is also pursuing certificates for U.S. Intelligence Systems and Emergency Management, which provide courses that teach real-world approaches to solving complicated problems.
“Being involved on campus and especially with the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy has provided me the necessary skills for my future career, as well as leadership skills that I apply in my everyday life,” Zeitz said.
After graduation in Spring 2024, Zeitz plans to pursue a career in global communications and public affairs. She aspires to the position of Public Diplomacy Officer, a specialized Foreign Service Officer who represents American society and U.S. interests abroad through involvement with cultural programs and public relations efforts.
