McEnery began serving as a Student Senator for FSU’s Student Government Association in April 2023. They represented the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy while being a part of the Budget Committee and Chair of the Legislative Ad Hoc Committee.

As a Student Senator, McEnery was also awarded Senator of the Month for February 2024 after the passage of her bill to fund weather-resistant QR stickers on all Seminole Express stops that links to a PDF version of bus routes.

FSU’s Seminole Express provides transportation across campus for faculty, staff, and students at no extra cost to them. Thousands of students ride the Seminole Express every year, depending on it as their primary mode of transportation.

“Through the Student Senate, I have been able to learn about ways to make campus better, and then actually having the power to make those improvements has meant a great deal to me,” McEnery said. “I was able to do this not just through my own legislation but by helping others with their legislation.”

McEnery has found that both majors, Political Science and ISS, allow them to expand their skills and learn new things about their interests. Once beginning their political science classes, they identified how common and, therefore, vital research was.

“I found out that research was something that greatly interested me and this interest pushed me to become involved in the Research-Intensive Bachelor’s Certification (RIBC) program,” McEnery said. “The RIBC program has been an amazing opportunity that has allowed me to conduct research with peers on women’s involvement in politics and international affairs.”

During their second year, McEnery took the class ‘Intersections, Power, and Policy’ taught by Radha Modi, Ph.D. They said Dr. Modi was an amazing professor who showed them the importance of the ISS program.

“The ISS Major provides a lot of flexibility for students as it allows students to take classes from a variety of different disciplines such as economics, international affairs, and psychology. I ended up loving this major so much that I decided to do an Honors in the Major paper in it,” McEnery said.

Along with their academic drive, McEnery has shown exemplary leadership on campus, serving as an Engage 100 Instructor, a Staff Writer for Her Campus, and a mentor for the Freshman Leadership Institute. They are also involved in the Nineteen Ten Honorary, Phi Alpha Delta, and the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s Women’s Leadership Network.

When asked why they chose to attend FSU, McEnery said, “While touring the campus I learned all about the massive amount of support and resources FSU gives its students. FSU is a school that wants to see its students thrive and be successful not only during their time at the university but after as well.”

After graduation, McEnery hopes to attend law school and become a family law attorney.
