Matthew Becker, Ph.D., – a two-time FSU alumnus (B.S. political science ’07, M.S. international affairs Matthew Becker, Ph.D. – a two-time FSU alumnus (B.S. Political Science ’07, M.S. International Affairs ’09) – was nominated by the U.S. Department of State to serve as a member of the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as an international election observer.

Emma Barrett – an FSU alumna (B.S. Political Science ’25; B.S. International Affairs ’25) – began her Ph.D. in Political Science at Harvard University’s Department of Government this Fall, studying American Politics.

Chloe Ann Wain – an FSU alumna (B.S. Political Science & Economics ’24; B.A. English ’24) – has made significant contributions to the Broward County Public Defender’s Office, where she has held multiple roles. She is currently serving as a legal assistant in the Felony Division.

Sahari Walker – recent Master of Science in Planning (MSP) graduate – just accepted a job offer to become the State Disaster Housing Coordinator at the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM).

“My time at Florida State University has been instrumental in preparing me for the next step in my career with the Florida Division of Emergency Management,” Walker said. “Through the Master of Science in Planning program, I gained technical skills in urban planning but also a deep understanding of the importance of community-based approaches to problem-solving.”

Alumni Spotlight: Michel Hess

Michel Hess – FSU alumnus (B.S. International Affairs and Political Science ’89) – has served as the Senior Advisor for the Cybercrime Office of the Federal Attorney General since 2020. 

This position involves coordinating and leading law enforcement and criminal prosecution at strategic and operational levels nationwide and globally. Hess serves as an advisor to the Attorney General in the development of public-private partnerships, international engagements on improving access to electronic evidence, crime prevention, and managing a justice and cybercrime network of stakeholders.

Alexandra Griffin – an FSU alumna (B.S. Political Science ’21 & Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program) and current Master of Public Administration student – was recognized twice by the Department of Defense for her outstanding work at the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM).

Alumni Spotlight: Malik Moore

Malik Moore – an FSU alumnus [B.S. Political Science ’20 and Master’s of Applied American Politics and Policy (MAAPP) ’23] – was recently appointed as the youngest member of the Racial Reconciliation Committee for the City of Tampa. 

Formed in May 2024, the committee aims to research the effects of systematic discrimination and develop proposals to address affordable housing, development, youth empowerment, services for previously incarcerated individuals, and ignored areas of history. Moore was one of thirteen people to receive this position.

Matthew Becker, Ph.D. – two-time FSU alumnus (B.S. Political Science ’07 & M.S. International Affairs ’09) – was nominated by the U.S. Department of State to serve as a member of the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as an international election observer for the June 2 local election. He served with the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ Election Observation Mission to Serbia, for the country’s June elections.
