FSU’s Civil Rights Institute Participates in Juneteenth Event in Anchorage, Alaska 

Florida State University’s Civil Rights Institute’s Director and Acting Chair of the 400 Years of African American History Commission (400YAAHC), Ted Ellis, attended Freedom Forward: Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska, from June 19 to June 24.  

Florida State’s Civil Rights Institute Accepted to National Park Service’s African American Civil Rights Network 

Florida State University’s Civil Rights Institute was approved by the National Park Service to be included in the African American Civil Rights Network (AACRN), a federally funded initiative to bring awareness to various stories within the Civil Rights Movement as it spans time.

Black History Month: FSU expert available to offer insights on contributions and history of Black Americans

During Black History Month, America celebrates the legacy of Black Americans whose leadership brought about positive change across the nation. Florida State University’s new Civil Rights Institute Director, Ted Ellis, will travel to Capitol Hill this month as Acting Chair for the federal 400 Years of African-American History Commission (400YAAHC).

Creative historian named director of FSU’s Civil Rights Institute

Florida State University’s Civil Rights Institute has appointed its first director. 

Renowned artist Ted Ellis will lead the institute, which commemorates, celebrates, and studies the U.S. civil rights movement to promote justice and equality.  

“I’m very pleased to have such an esteemed, creative historian leading FSU’s Civil Rights Institute,” said Tim Chapin, dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.
