Assistant Professor of Sociology and Center for Demography and Public Health faculty Matthew Brooks, Ph.D., received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to examine how Medicaid expansion impacts mortality rates between individuals who live in rural and urban regions.

FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy hosted its first-ever Friendly Disagreement event in partnership with Village Square Tallahassee on Monday, March 24. The event featured John Wood Jr. and Ciaran O’Connor, two dear friends who disagree vehemently on a range of political and social issues who engaged in a spirited conversation that showcased how people can disagree on many things and still remain friends.

FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP) launched the Barnebey Leadership Lecture Series with the inaugural talk by Jorge Gonzalez on February 28, 2025.
Gonzalez (B.S. Political Science ’87; M.S. Urban & Reginal Planning ’89) shared wisdom on leadership with FSU students, faculty, and staff. Currently serving as the chief executive officer of The St. Joe Company and as a member of FSU’s Board of Trustees, he spoke about principles of leadership and encouraging team growth that can be applied to any field.
