Graduates, families, faculty, and staff gathered in the Bellamy Atrium on Friday, May 2, to celebrate the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s newest graduates.
On April 14, 2025, 18 COSSPP students were named to Florida State University’s 2025 Torchbearer 100 program, an honor by the Division of Student Affairs that recognizes leadership and lasting impact across campus.
FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy hosted its first-ever Friendly Disagreement event in partnership with Village Square Tallahassee on Monday, March 24. The event featured John Wood Jr. and Ciaran O’Connor, two dear friends who disagree vehemently on a range of political and social issues who engaged in a spirited conversation that showcased how people can disagree on many things and still remain friends.
Graduate programs within the college also recognition in this year’s U.S. News & World Report Rankings.
Students, alumni, faculty, and staff gathered at the Jim Moran Building for the program’s annual MAAPP at the Cap event on March 27.
FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP) launched the Barnebey Leadership Lecture Series with the inaugural talk by Jorge Gonzalez on February 28, 2025.
Gonzalez (B.S. Political Science ’87; M.S. Urban & Reginal Planning ’89) shared wisdom on leadership with FSU students, faculty, and staff. Currently serving as the chief executive officer of The St. Joe Company and as a member of FSU’s Board of Trustees, he spoke about principles of leadership and encouraging team growth that can be applied to any field.
Seven College of Social Science and Public Policy (COSSPP) faculty – Amid Ardakani, Ph.D. Will Butler, Ph.D., Karen Cyphers, Ph.D., Maria Cristina Ramos, Ph.D., Annette Schwabe, Ph.D., Ladanya Ramirez Surmeier, Ph.D., and Tracy Woodard, Ph.D.– received University Teaching Awards for the 2024-2025 school year.

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy has announced its 2025 Faculty Research, Teaching, and Service Award recipients.
Flowing from the COSSPP Strategic Plan, the college has developed a COSSPP Faculty Awards Series to honor high-achieving faculty in the areas of teaching, research, and service.
The Tallahassee Democrat named five COSSPP graduates — Robyn Metcalf Blank, Sue Ebbers, Ph.D., Sara Hassler, Emily Saras, Ph.D., and Jacquelyn Colson Steele — to its 2025 class of “25 Women to Know” on March 1.
