COSSPP Hosts First-Ever Friendly Disagreement Event with Village Square Featuring John Wood Jr. and Ciaran O’Connor 

FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy hosted its first-ever Friendly Disagreement event in partnership with Village Square Tallahassee on Monday, March 24. The event featured John Wood Jr. and Ciaran O’Connor, two dear friends who disagree vehemently on a range of political and social issues who engaged in a spirited conversation that showcased how people can disagree on many things and still remain friends.

FSU Launches Barnebey Leadership Lecture Series with Inaugural Talk by Jorge Gonzalez

FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP) launched the Barnebey Leadership Lecture Series with the inaugural talk by Jorge Gonzalez on February 28, 2025.

Gonzalez (B.S. Political Science ’87; M.S. Urban & Reginal Planning ’89) shared wisdom on leadership with FSU students, faculty, and staff. Currently serving as the chief executive officer of The St. Joe Company and as a member of FSU’s Board of Trustees, he spoke about principles of leadership and encouraging team growth that can be applied to any field.

Seven COSSPP Faculty Receive 2024-2025 University Teaching Awards 

Seven College of Social Science and Public Policy (COSSPP) faculty – Amid Ardakani, Ph.D. Will Butler, Ph.D., Karen Cyphers, Ph.D., Maria Cristina Ramos, Ph.D., Annette Schwabe, Ph.D., Ladanya Ramirez Surmeier, Ph.D., and Tracy Woodard, Ph.D.– received University Teaching Awards for the 2024-2025 school year.  

COSSPP Announces 2025 Faculty Research, Teaching, Service Award Recipients 

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy has announced its 2025 Faculty Research, Teaching, and Service Award recipients.  

Flowing from the COSSPP Strategic Plan, the college has developed a COSSPP Faculty Awards Series to honor high-achieving faculty in the areas of teaching, research, and service.
