The Social Science Scholars Program provides career-accelerating leadership training and experiences to 18 outstanding COSSPP undergraduate students with a major in the College, cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, participation in on-campus, community, and/or business organizations, and is graduating no sooner than the Fall 2025 Semester.

COSSPP Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Established as the College of Social Sciences in the fall of 1973 as part of a university-wide academic reorganization, our college began with just five departments: economics, geography, government (now political science), sociology, and urban and regional planning.

There’s been much growth over the years, with 12 departments and interdisciplinary programs now housed within the college, along with 11 centers and institutes.

Alan Rowan Named Director of FSU’s Public Health Program

Alan Rowan, DrPh, has been named the new Director of the Public Health program for a three-year term. Dr. Rowan specializes in epidemiology and diseases of environmental origin and has taught courses in Public Health Program at FSU since 2003. Most recently he served as the internship director for the program. 

COSSPP History Series: Public Health Program

Established in 2003, the Public Health Program at Florida State University is the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy’s newest interdisciplinary program. Under the leadership of Professor Emeritus of Political Science William Weissert, Ph.D., the program’s first director, the program had its first Master of Public Health (MPH) graduates matriculate in 2004. 

Florida State University Honors 37 COSSPP Student Leaders through Torchbearer 100 Program

The Division of Student Affairs at Florida State University proudly honored the 2024 inductee class for the Torchbearer 100 program during a celebration on April 15 at the FSU Student Union. Of the entire inductee class, 37 COSSPP students were among them. The Torchbearer 100 program is a longstanding tradition which recognizes a diverse group of 100 undergraduate students who have shown exceptional leadership and achievement during their collegiate careers.
